If you dont know, now you know
this is my personal list of documentaries, books and overall resources i strongly suggest you to read and see. Other valueable lists to check out are here and here. I still have a lot of unread books on my desk and unwatched movies on my harddrive that will most likely make it to this list so im going to update this as i go about my life.
movies/documentaries:
- Gary Yurofskys Speech (FUCK GEMA for blocking this in germany) and Q&A is probably the best thing out there if youre interested in veganism. its also the best thing to watch if you hate vegans, vegetarians & love dairy, eggs and meat because gary delivers the whole package. he covers all the lies and myths youve been fed all your lives. he handles and destroys all the prejudices you may have about anything related to living cruelty free.
- Earthlings. a perfect compilation of the myriad of ways in which humans exploit nonhumans. a must view for everyone. If you believe “animals” have to be happy in order to produce your food, you must watch this. if you think meat is not murder, you must watch this. if you think dairy is not rape, you must watch this. if you think animal experimentation is necessary for progress and a good thing in and of itself, you, mr. hitler, must watch this. if you think leather and fur are awesome and fashionable, you must watch this. if you think supporting the premeditated, never ending genocide of nonhuman animals is a personal choice, you must watch this. if you think free range eggs are allright, you must watch this. if you think zoos and circuses are a good thing, you must watch this. if you think buying “pets” from breeders is a good thing, you must watch this. if you think our treatment of nonhuman animals is not in any way comparable to the holocaust, you must watch this. […] if you did and still think animals are put on this earth as machinelike serves for mankind, you should kill yourself right the fuck now-because nothing else will help you.
- Farm to Fridge. “the 12-minute film depicts some of the most heinous treatment that animals raised for food routinely face, and is narrated by vegan actorj ames cromwell. Hot on the heels of undercover investigations that have exposed horrific animal cruelty on egg, dairy, and veal farms, fish slaughtering facilities, and poultry slaughterhouses, Farm to Fridge gives viewers a total picture of the egregiously cruel state of animal agriculture. “
- Behind The Mask. your chance to witness first hand what needs to be done all over the world at any given time. direct action, animal liberation. watch the full film here or better yet, buy it.
- Steve Best - I Want A War. a hard-hitting speech about the problems within the vegan movement (mainstream veganism / lifestyle veganism), what we have to do to solve them and be heard. less tumblr and a whole fucking lot more civil fucking disobedience.
- Forks Over Knives. almost zero animal rights related/ethical content, focuses entirely on the environmental and health aspects of eating nonhumans. The lack of animal rights discussion in this documentary is the reason for this sudden surge of new celebrity vegans you can read about everywhere. Perfect material to watch with your “OMG NOT EATING BACON WILL KILL YOU”-parents/peers.
- Oppress This! a great website with lots of shorter videos dealing with various topics concerning veganism/animal rights.
books
- The Sexual Politics of Meat: a feminist vegetarian critical theory, Carol J. Adams, exposing the connections between the oppression of women and the oppression of animal by the structure of the absent referent. mindblowing book, absolute must read.
- Animal Liberation, ignore Peter Singer. acquire loads of information.
- Eating Animals, ignore Jonathan Safran Foer. acquire loads of information.
(still have faith in humanity? then read:)
- Slaughterhouse, Gail Eisnitz
- Eternal Treblinka, Charles Patterson
